HAIX
Double Duty Boots for Paramedics and Firefighters A majority of your time as a firefighter or paramedic will be spent wearing station boots. So it only makes sense to invest in the right kind of boot that can be worn in both the firehouse and on emergency calls. With the right boot, any undertaking becomes easier. With the HAIX® Airpower® R2 firefighter nail proof boots, your feet are not only kept comfortable but also protected from the many potential hazards encountered on the job. Polishable Leather and Reflective Back Heel and Zipper The Airpower R2 men's boots offer a smooth leather polishable toe since some departments make that a requirement in their station boots. When a polishable toe is needed, HAIX® Airpower R2 is just the boot for you. We also added a few areas of reflective material on the back heel and along the zipper, for better visibility while on emergency calls at night. Protective Toe and Built in Arch Support Because an extra roomy steel toe is built into the HAIX® Airpower R2 firefighter nail proof boots, your toes gets plenty of room to move around while still being protected from impact blows and compression. All without pinching or cramping your foot. The built in arch support of these black EMS boots helps you maintain comfort throughout the day even after you've been standing for long periods of time. The right support not only prevents foot pain but also potential foot problems in the future. And with the laced in zipper system, you can achieve a more personal fit by adjusting the lacing how you like but still take it off quickly and easily after a long hard day. CROSSTECH® Protected with Arch Support System and Steel Puncture Plate European leather craftsmanship is evident in these black EMS boots, which ensures longer lasting durability. The specially developed rubber sole with its slip resistant, heat resistant, oil and fuel resistant and antistatic features ensures that you are able to move freely on the job without any worries. Since HAIX® soles are also non-marking, you leave no hard to remove scuff marks on your clean floors. With a steel puncture plate embedded into the shoe, you get the best puncture resistance there is. The even better part? You won't even know that it's there.  The HAIX® Airpower R2 boot is waterproof and breathable and has added protection against chemicals and bloodborne pathogens with its CROSSTECH® inner liner. And because it works together with the HAIX® Climate System, your feet are guaranteed to stay comfortable and dry no matter what temperature is. The HAIX® climate system allows the air in your boots to circulate, since the movement of your feet when walking, literally pumps warm and moist air out of the inside of your shoes. It's an amazing feature that protects you from the little nuisances that keep you from performing your job. Secura Liner® and HAIX® Sun Reflect Leather Protected The HAIX® Secura Liner® feature guarantees that your inner liner will never pull out or wrinkle up over time. There is nothing worse than walking around all day feeling an uncomfortable ridge where the liner has bunched up. HAIX® Sun Reflect leather also makes sure that your feet are kept cooler even when under direct sunlight. HAIX® Lacing System NFPA Certified for EMS The patented lacing system of the HAIX® lets you adjust the tightness of your boot depending on what is comfortable for you and it won’t loosen after only a few minutes of pressure. This ensures that you never have to worry about retying your boot while in the middle of saving lives on the job.  At the end of the day, you can easily take off the boot in a few seconds through the front zipper and pull tab. Because after a long and hard day at work, the last thing you'll want to deal with are shoe laces. The HAIX Airpower R2 firefighter nail proof boots are also NFPA certified for EMS which means they were specially designed to withstand and protect you from what you may encounter during emergency medical situations. Maximum safety for first responders

You focus on what matters: Saving lives. Your Airpower® R2 ensures you come home safely at the end of every day.

Maximum protection certified for EMS

Your health is a priority. The Airpower R2 offers all-around protection for your feet because it is puncture-resistant, protects your toes, and protects you from some of the dangerous fluids you come in contact with on the job. It is a certified EMS boot ready for service.

Protect your toes with our steel toe cap

When safety toe boots are a requirement, but so is a polishable toe, the Airpower R2 is the perfect choice. The built-in steel toe offers maximum space in the toe box and protects your toes to the highest safety requirements. Polish the leather toe to meet even the strictest uniform requirement.

Keep yourself safe from dangerous fluids thanks to CROSSTECH® technology

Your job can expose you to hazardous situations. The CROSSTECH® technology in the Airpower R2's inner lining ensures your boots are waterproof while also protecting you from potentially dangerous fluids such as blood, bodily fluids, and chemicals. Your feet stay dry, and you stay safe.

Keep your footing with HAIX® protective sole

With the Airpower R2 slip-resistant sole, you can walk and run with confidence. The integrated safety sole won't melt on hot pavement or disintegrate from oil, fuels, and chemical exposures at accident scenes. As an added feature, the sole is EH-rated as well.

Comfort to endure the longest hours

You spend long hours on your feet. We make sure it doesn't feel like it.

Comfort fit with HAIX® cushioned insole

HAIX insoles keep your feet and your shoes fresher and more comfortable on the job. Our insoles absorb perspiration to keep your feet dry even in the most rigorous conditions. Added cushioning provides extra comfort. The microfiber design is lightweight, breathable, and machine washable. Replace occasionally to keep your shoes fresh and comfortable.

Extra support for your feet with the HAIX® Arch Support System

You can perform your duties better with more stability in the Airpower R2. The built-in arch support relieves stress on your feet by distributing weight more evenly. Walk without pain, improve your general well-being, and increase your ability to perform without the distraction of foot and leg pain.

Quick in and out zipper lacing system

When seconds matter, you can rely on the zipper lacing system in our Airpower R2 to give you a more personalized fit while ensuring you can rush out to the next call without the hassle of lacing up. When your boots arrive, adjust the lacing for a personalized fit just for you. Then enjoy that fit every time, every day. Slip on, zip up, and go.

Breathable comfort with HAIX® Climate System

The Airpower R2 ensures your feet stay dry and comfortable by utilizing special foams that absorb moisture from your feet between the inner lining and the leather. With each step, moist air expels, and fresh air enters through the vent holes at the top of the boot. This Climate System functions like an air conditioning system for your feet.

Your questions. Our honest answers.

Yes, you can buy replacement parts for the Airpower R2 such as insoles, laces, and zippers. You can find these items on our website on the accessories page. If you are looking to retread or refurbish your Airpower R2 boots, check out the HAIX Extended Wear program page.
Yes, your boot fit can be adjusted on the Airpower R2 by tightening or loosening the laces on either side of the zipper mechanisim. For a slightly more individualized fit, boots can be adjusted with an alternate insole. A blue insole for a narrower fit (thickest), a yellow insole for a wider fit (thinnest). Extra insoles can be purchased on the accessories page.
Yes, the front lacing zipper system of the Airpower R2 allows the individual user to adjust the fit to their own personal needs, offering more ankle support as needed, or possibly offering a looser fit in the lower leg for larger calves. Boots should be adjusted to your preference when they are received, then just zip in or out from then on. A second adjustment to the lacing may be needed after the boots have gone through their initial break in period.
The Airpower® XR2 and Airpower® R2 are certified to NFPA 1999 for emergency medical operations while the Airpower® XR1 is certified to both NFPA 1999 and NFPA 1977 for Wildland Firefighting. The Airpower® XR2 and Airpower R2 are both 8" in height while the Airpower® XR1 is 9" in height. Both the Airpower® XR1 and XR2 are composite toe with non-metallic puncture plates while the Airpower® R2 has a steel toe and steel puncture plate. The Airpower® R2 differs from the other 2 models in that it has a leather toe that is polishable. Since the Airpower® XR2 and XR1 are so similar, the Airpower® XR1 has a red NFPA 1977 label on the left boot.
With the CROSSTECH inner liner, the Airpower R2 does offer protection from liquids, chemicals, and bloodborne pathogens. The boots are tested and certified according to NFPA 1999 standards for biopenetration.
The Airpower R2 runs similar in size to your athletic shoe size, but because of the built in arch support, they do run on the narrow side. The Airpower R2 comes in medium, wide, and extra wide widths. It is recommended that you order one width larger than your usual width. For example, most people who normally wear a medium, would wear a wide in this boot.

Best boots I've had in a long time

I've only had my Haix for a little over a 2 weeks now and I don't think I'll ever wear another brand boot again. There is absolutely no break in time needed usually with new boots my feet hurt for the first few weeks not with these I work a 14 hour shift and I'm on the run most of the time from the time I start shift till the end my feet feel great. I'm thinking about getting a pair of Haix to replace the boots in my bunker gear.

Best boots despite the cost

Best boots for EMS; out of the box comfort. Expensive, but they last for years compared to other, cheaper brands (quality AND price).

Great station / duty boot option

After having worn Haix for the last 7 years, it was an obvious choice for my next pair. The AirPower R2 boots hold up every reason I liked my previous pair. Excellent construction, top tier materials, and all day comfort. Haix will always be my first stop for on-duty boots.

Best boots out of the box

These boots have been amazing so far, I've had them about a month and there have been no break in issues and no blistering or anything. Super comfortable and have no issue wearing these boots for my entire shift. The one issue i had was my left boot the zipper occasionally catches on the lining inside making it stuck in place, i can avoid this by pushing the lining out of the way as i zip the boot up. That is the only reason these boots get a 9/10. I would 100% recommend these boots to any FF or EMS personnel looking for a good duty boot.

AR 2 boots

These are great boots. This is my third pair of boots from here over the years. They hold up very well from brush fires to medical calls. The only issue I've had was this third pair I recently ordered. There is some extra leather on the inside of the left boot near the lowered eye that causes a pressure point on my upper foot near my little toe. I've only used this newest pair once. I'm hoping as time passes that this pair will become as comfortable as the last two I ordered. Over all the strength, and durability of these boots are fantastic.

Incredible Boots

Have not had the boots for long but, out of the box the first impression was spectacular! I originally bought these boots because during my 24 hour shifts I do not get much time in between calls to take my boots off and when I would it was always cumbersome to have to retie each boot. So I came about HAIX from my own research and I really saw how this zip design seemed tailored to exactly what I was looking for in a boot and since wearing them I have been very impressed with every aspect of these boots. I have not fully broken them in yet but so far they have been extremely comfortable and I have had no complaints about them thus far. My own disclaimer here is that I have fairly wide feet and I originally ordered wide boots thinking that they would fit fine but they were a little too snug for my liking. So, if you think your feet are a little wider than average and are on the fence between wide and extra wide definitely go with the extra wide and, if they do not fit it is super easy to send them back and order a new pair. I sent mine back got a full refund and my new pair came in three days. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and am very happy do be a customer of this company.

Great Boots

My son was accepted into a Southern California FD Explorer Program and needed boots. Our neighbor is a FF and recommended HAIX. After a lot of driving around we ended up finding what he needed on HAIX website with a discount. The boots arrived promptly and he really likes them. We didn't notice they would come with safety reflection however, the dept. is OK with it.

boots are 10 years old

Love these boots! These were the first pair of boots I bought as an EMT, and I bought a size 7M mens, even tho I am a woman. I have had no problems with them, until recently when the rubber in the heels finally gave out. I sent them to be resoled because everything else about them is so comfortably broken in, but I was told they are too old. Bummer. So, I have been trying to buy a new pair - XR2 - but it seems I wear a very popular size because HAIX has been sold out for quite a while. ugh. I need new boots and I do not want to switch brands.

Best Duty Boots I’ve Owned

We are issued Haix bunker boots by our department. I really like them so I figured I’d give the duty boots a try. I was not disappointed. These duty boots are some of the best I have owned. They are comfortable and easy to get on and off. It took a few weeks to truly break them in but once they were broken, the most comfortable boots I’ve owned.

Excellent and what a Customer Service!! (update to previous review)

As you can see I previously reviewed these boots (and I am sure the XR1 or XR2 aren't that much different, this is just an older version) and gave them an excellent rating MINUS the zipper issue I addressed in that review. But I stated the boots themselves are perfect and I will buy AirPower boots again once the time comes to sadly have to replace mine.
I wanted to update my star rating with this review as literally ONE DAY AFTER I left the original review, Carrie from Customer Service contacted me and stated this could be a warranty issue and that she would be happy to send not one, but two zipper replacements (the entire front flap, without shoelaces). I gave her my address and contact info and received both zippers free of any charge on 3 Jun (to be fair we were out of the state for three days before that so they may have come in earlier). What I really want to convey is that to me, this is excellent customer service, especially since I was prepared to pay for a refurbishment, if needed. So THANK YOU HAIX for this awesome experience, the warranty replaced zippers on a pair of boots that were two years old and the promptness of your response. Yes, my concern was perfectly addressed and I will continue to be a HAIX customer.
I only have one very small suggestion and you may indeed have corrected this in a newer design or on the new design for the XR2 boots: the zipper is still not lockable, other than with Velcro. I am sure they must make lockable zippers that need no other mechanism other than the zipper itself. This will prevent the velcro from deteriorating over time and the zipper beginning to loosen itself at the most inopportune moments. But like I said, it's just a friendly suggestion. Thank you for making otherwise excellent boots for all the defenders out there. We couldn't do it without the proper gear!

2.5/5

Excellent but the ZIPPERS??

I don't recall exactly when I got these boots but it was either in the summer of 2017 or in the beginning of that year. In any case, I have them less than three years and wear them only really half a year, given our rotation schedule in the Helicopter EMS world. We fly seven days and then have seven days off.
Let me first say these boots are absolutely the best boots you could ever buy. I have taken them through all kinds of surfaces, in many states of this beautiful country of ours, as we land in all possible terrain. Wet, dry, hot, humid, it doesn't matter. They simply persist and are, after the notorious break in period, superbly comfortable. Also, they do not get super hot as many other boots do, especially in helos, where we sit in the proverbial "hot house bubble" even during flight with the AC on, as our feet are always exposed to directly sunlight, out there in the chin bubble. Trust me, they are comfortable!
Now, however, given the fairly limited wear, the soles are starting to wear, which, fine, I understand that is normal, and I would be happy to get them refurbished for that. But one thing I cannot understand is that on the right boot, the zipper broke off, as in completely off, so that I have to pinch my fingers to close my boots every time. Also, the zippers themselves, as others have noted on here already, ARE TERRIBLE! They ALWAYS come down and getting out of the helicopter, after a short flight, your boots are unzipped....flight suit pant leg gets stuck, looks very unprofessional. I do not want to zip up my boots every single time I get out of the aircraft!! And most certainly not with a broken zipper flap. What others have mentioned, I second, the velcro is NOT ENOUGH to hold the zipper up. Not even close.
So in summary, a wonderful boot, a fantastic boot, but one with a major design flaw. Given the current condition of my boots, I had contemplated replacing them with the XR1 (because I would prefer the 9in boot leg height), but after seeing the same zipper problems in reviews, I may opt to go with a different brand altogether. Even refurbing mine through Nushoes (the program HAIX offers) is not really an option, especially if you have to pay extra to replace the zippers (bringing the total to the cost of a pair of 5.11s that last as long as they will). It is disappointing, as this boot, and the XR1 and XR2 could really be the pinnacle of boots out there. Especially given the German Engineering put in it. But the zippers will make you think twice.

Philipp - EMS Helicopter P.

Comfortable but durability issues

After my boots were broken in they were amazingly comfortable. However after less than a year there is a tear in the leather by the toe as well as the sole wearing very unevenly to the point that they are unwearable. I know im a bigger guy so i dont expect to get five years out of my boots like some people but I dropped a decent amount of cash and I really hoped they would last at least a year to 18 months.

Justyn E.

3.5/5

Not bad

I have had these boots about 18 months. I work 24 hour shifts as a medic and firefighter. Overall the boots are comfortable and have held up good, except the tops of the toes. I don’t know why but the top of both boots have gouges out of them and visible scratches. I cared for these boots by polishing them and using the HAIX boot polish and it just makes the scratches and gouges more noticeable. I guess I just hoped they would last longer for what I paid for them.

Excellent Customer Service!

I am a full time firefighter and have been wearing these very comftrable boots going on 2 years now. The zipper broke last month so i contacted customer service and Stacy promptly sent out a replacement zipper free of charge. Not only does Haix make a great product but their friendly customer service is top notch!!
Only reason why I didn't give 10 stars is because the sole is begining to seperate.
Thank you Stacy!

Its a boot - a slippery boot.

Have been using these boots for ~2 years fulltime 12-hour shifts.

Good: Durable, after 2 years of use there is very minimal wear.

Bad: EXTREMELY slippery if temp goes below -5C. You will eventually wipe out on DRY pavement if you wear these boots in the cold. Other cold surfaces are worse (wood, metal, snow etc). This is made worse if any surface is wet. Don't bother trying to walk on packed snow or ice. These are easily the most dangerous boots to wear if you are outside in subzero weather.
-At first, the lace/zipper is very nice however the zipper will eventually begin to get caught on the leather everytime you attempt to zip which completely negates the early convenience.

I would not personally buy these boots and wear them only because work paid for them. My next boot cycle I will likely be choosing other boots (would reconsider if the tread material was changed).

My third pair and love them

I’ve been wearing Haix for about 10 years in the Fire service and have to say these are the best boots I’ve ever owned. You get what you pay for, and these are well worth the cash! I like my Haix so much that I’m considering switching my Red Wings for a pair of the xr200. My next pair will be the xr2 because they have the the toe protector. Also if you have problems with the zipper just wax them like you would a dry suit and it’ll solve any problems you may have...Thanks Haix!

Worth the price

I bought these boots 2 years ago and at first they where not the most comfortable boots. But after wearing them and letting the leather break-in they have become some of the most comfortable boots I have ever worn and working for a big city fire department as a paramedic comfort is very important as we are extremely busy. The only down side I have to these boots is after two years of taking very good care of them (polish and cleaned weekly) the stitching at the bottom of the where the laces attach have started to come undone. I attempted to get them redone through the Hair extended wear program (nushoe) and was told that my boots where too damaged to be reconditioned. I am hoping I can get these fixed somehow so I don't need to break-in a new pair.

Recent Haix boot order

I recently ordered another set of Haix boots. I already own a pair of Airpower R8 with which I'm very happy. My recent order should have been for a pair of Airpower XR2 but in haste I ordered R2, no toe cap. I called Haix and they got the replacement boots out the same day with a discount. I really appreciate the way Customer Service treated me. The boots themselves are great, but having good Customer Service to back them makes me a lifetime customer. Thank you Tricia Kluesner, Customer Service Manager.

Harsh

I have had these boots for a month now and I had very high expectations. They are super easy and fast to put on, however the zipper hangs upon the leather when unzipping. The water proof qualities are wonderful and a must when dealing with other people's bodily fluids, however my feet sweat profusely and they are dripping wet within minutes. They feel quite solid, however the insole made it feel like I was walking on concrete barefooted. After replacing them with gel insoles that did help with that aspect. I have worn many different kinds and these are the most solid I have ever had, but I take them off every chance I get to give my feet a break.

Not a good fit for me

I have a very wide foot with high instep. Normally wear a EEEE Width shoe. Ordered the extra wide boot which upon receiving felt more like a EE fit and could not wear at all. Too bad for me. Looked like a well made boot. Sent back and treated well by customer service. Wish theses companies would cater to those of us that don't "fit the norm". Implore on someone in marketing to considrr doing special fit orders.

Great boot I've had the same pair for close to a year now, and they have lasted and still look great. Super comfy boot; only get comfier longer they are worn.
My only concern is that living and working in Canada we come across a lot of ice and packed snow these boots, with a winter sole on these boots and possibly a better insulation. those boots would blow the competitors boots out of the water.

Awesome job on these boots. Thanks

Amazing boots!

Heading into the fire academy in September, I was looking for a good pair of boots that would last and that I could continue to wear once officially getting hired with the department. Was originally looking to purchase the xr1's but needed a polish able toe, so these ended up becoming first choice. I spent time reading reviews and noticed that most people that have purchased factory seconds couldn't even tell why they were considered "seconds." I made the choice to risk it and ended up purchasing seconds, and man I'm glad I did. These boots are amazing! I can't really tell why they are considered seconds either. Maybe due to the tiny imperfections on the side of the sole? Either way, it doesn't affect the boot in any way and is only noticeable when looking for it. These boots are comfortable right out of the box, lacing in the zipper is extremely easy with the supplied instructions, and the quality of these boots is amazing. My father also works for the fire department (inspections and investigations) and upon seeing these is wanting to order some as well. Can't wait to wear these more as I am sure my feet will be thanking me.

I'm thinking about getting a pair of Haix to replace the boots in my bunker gear

Couldn't handle a year on probation

I'd like to start with the positives. These boots are indeed comfortable right out of the box an appear to be very well made, with thoughtful attention paid to stress points in the boot. They have shown solid water and UV resistance as long as I've had them (15 months). Now for the negative side. As mentioned above, the leather on the toe does appear to be quite soft, as all of the recruits' boots from my class are now sporting numerous "battle scars" from our year on probation. Additionally, the leather uppers of my boots are both beginning to tear at the point immediately below where the lace eyelets are. While I realize that I spend more time crouching and kneeling than most firefighter/EMTs, I'd think that a $269 pair of boots would last longer than 15 months. I love both pairs of Haix structural boots that I've purchased over the years; I just wish I could say the same about these.

4 Years and still going strong

I've been wearing my R2's for 4 years now, and never had better boots. Our service gives us boots, but they dont provide the security that thies do, plus i have what you call big feet, so getting a pair in 15 wasnt easy, the only ones they could give me was super heavy and bulky.
I had to try something else and my choise fell on the Haix Airpower R2.
I have never looked back, best boots ever, feel greit on my foot, light, a pretty boot and it lets me forget about where i step, it has my back everyday, all day.

Thank you Haix

A family member who is in law enforcement first turned me on to Haix boots. He raved about being able to wear them 6-7 days a week and after 3 or 4 years, finally had them serviced and resoled. I was impressed because he said he wanted them serviced only as a precaution and could have gone another year or two before it would have been absolutely necessary. He's a frugal and smart guy, so for him to recommend a boot that's priced a little more than the average boot, there must be something to it. Boy, was he right.
I found their booth at FDIC 2 years ago and immediately ordered a pair after trying them on. I was a little concerned about the break-in time, thinking that the boots felt good because they were broken-in display models. Boy, was I wrong. After a slight mixup in receiving the wrong boot, I got my new pair and started wearing them immediately. They softened up quickly, and I've been wearing them 6-7 days a week, both as a firefighter and working an ambulance part-time. The days of going through 2-3 department store/off brand boots a year are over. The only recommendation I would say is be careful of the toes. The leather is good quality, but softer than the cheap stuff, so it scuffs and cuts easier. Tips to fill in gouges and nicks are out there, so it's nothing to get upset about. Without a doubt, these boots are worth the investment.

These are the boots you want!

These boots are fantastic! I am relatively flat-footed so I was concerned how comfortable I would be in these boots with no "break in" time. Turns out, these boots don't need that "break in" time. In fact, the first time I wore these boots I worked a 48 hour shift and not once did my feet feel sore or fatigued. These are by far the most comfortable boots I have purchased for work. As a first time Haix customer I am extremely pleased with the product. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, supportive, and high quality boot. Well done Haix and thank you!

Best EMS Boots Avaliable

I have had my Haix R2 for 2 years now. Working at a busy service, my former pairs of boots were lucky to survive past 9 months. However, at 2 years old and counting, my Haix boots are still in amazing shape. Not only are these boots durable, but are also extremely comfortable and relatively light as far as EMS boots go. Strongly recommend anyone looking for a new pair of EMS boots to consider the R2s.

My feet have found their home in Haix

THANK YOU! I've now had my Haix Airpower R2 boots for one week. My feet have never felt so comfortable inside a boot. There was practically ZERO "break in" time as I immediately began wearing them on 24 hour shifts without any discomfort or pain that I'd typically get from a new boot. This was my first experience with Haix boots, which I opted to purchase on the recommendation of a co-worker. I can say with 100% certainty that I'll never search for another brand of boot, as my feet have found their home in Haix. Thank you for creating a boot that is comfortable and supports those of us in the field so well. I look forward to shopping for a lower cut boot come summer time.
